Planning a Wedding, a Milestone, or Simply a Smile You Love — Smile Makeovers Explained
A wedding, a milestone, or simply wanting a smile you love in photos — a smile makeover combines whitening, veneers, bonding, and alignment into a single tailored plan. At FaceLab, you preview your new smile in 3D before any treatment begins.
Some patients come for a moment — a wedding, a milestone, a public role. Others come quieter: years of holding back their smile in photos. Either way, every smile makeover at FaceLab begins with a 3D-printed try-on so you can wear and approve your new smile before treatment starts.

In one sentence
A coordinated mix of cosmetic treatments — veneers, whitening, alignment, gum reshaping — designed for your smile and previewed in 3D before you commit.
When patients consider a smile makeover
- Teeth that have yellowed or stained over the years and don't respond to over-the-counter whitening
- Crowded, crooked, or unevenly-spaced teeth that feel awkward in photos
- Gaps between teeth that have always bothered you
- Worn, chipped, or short-looking teeth from years of grinding or aging
- A 'gummy smile' where too much gum shows when you smile broadly
- Old crowns or bondings that no longer match the colour of your other teeth
- A wedding, milestone birthday, or new public role coming up — and a smile you want to feel confident about
- A long-standing habit of smiling with your mouth closed because of how your teeth look
How smile design works at FaceLab
Every smile makeover at FaceLab starts with one important difference from most clinics — you see your new smile, and physically wear it, before any treatment begins.
- 1
Consultation and digital scan
We start by understanding what you want. A digital scan of your teeth, photos of your face from multiple angles, and a conversation about your goals — for the event, for the photos, for everyday confidence.
- 2
Digital smile design
Our team designs your new smile digitally — tailored to your facial features, age, skin tone, and personality. You see proposed designs side-by-side and weigh in before anything physical is made.
- 3
3D-printed try-on
Your design is 3D-printed as a wearable mock-up you can wear in the mirror, photograph, and show your partner. Want it less white, a different shape? We redesign and reprint — unlimited revisions, no extra cost, until you love it.
- 4
Final treatment
Once the design is approved, we begin the actual treatments — veneers, whitening, alignment, bonding, or gum reshaping, in whatever combination matches your design. Most smile makeovers complete in two to twelve weeks, depending on the mix.
What makes FaceLab's smile design different
Cosmetic dentistry is offered by many clinics in Sri Lanka. What sets FaceLab apart is not the individual treatments — those are widely available. It is the design process, the technology, the materials, and the coordinated team behind them.
Wearable 3D-printed smile preview
Most clinics show you a digital mockup on a screen. We 3D-print your proposed new smile so you can physically wear it, see it on your own face in a mirror, take photos, and decide before any irreversible treatment begins. Unlimited design revisions until the result is one you love.
Designed from your facial proportions, not a template
Your new smile is designed to match your facial proportions, your features, your skin tone, and the smile you want to project — not a one-shape-fits-all veneer kit or a 'Hollywood smile' template. The aim is a result that looks like the version of you you have always wanted to see in photos.
Premium materials, in-house design
Veneers are crafted from glass-ceramic or zirconia — internationally-sourced premium materials, with our in-house dental lab handling the design and finish. The choice of materials directly affects how natural the result looks and how long it lasts.
Conservative-first approach
Where we can achieve the result you want with whitening, bonding, or composite work, we recommend that first. Veneers are recommended only where they are clinically the best answer. The goal is the smile you want, with as little done to your natural teeth as the result allows.
One team, every treatment under one roof
Smile makeovers often combine treatments — whitening with veneers with gum reshaping with light alignment. At FaceLab all of these are performed by one coordinated team in the same clinic. No referrals, no clashing schedules, no having to repeat your story to a new dentist.
When a smile makeover may not be the answer
Not every dissatisfaction with a smile is solved by aesthetic treatment. A thorough consultation rules out anything that should be addressed differently before cosmetic work starts.
- Active tooth decay or gum disease — these need treating first before any cosmetic work
- Significant alignment problems — sometimes orthodontics (clear aligners or braces) is the right answer, alone or alongside veneers
- Tight timelines — proper smile design takes weeks, not days; if you have an event in seven days, we will be honest about what is achievable
- Bite problems that need correcting — placing veneers on teeth with an unresolved bite issue can shorten their lifespan dramatically
- Heavy grinding habits — we manage these first, otherwise new veneers will wear or chip prematurely
- Expectations the design genuinely cannot deliver — we would rather tell you upfront than create disappointment after treatment is done
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — three months is comfortable for most smile makeovers. The journey typically runs: consultation and digital design (week 1), try-on review and refinement (weeks 1–2), the actual treatments (weeks 3–8), and a final polish and photographs (week 8–10). If you want orthodontic alignment as part of the plan that adds time, but most pre-wedding smile work fits inside a three-month window comfortably.
This is the biggest worry most patients have, and it comes from seeing badly-designed smile work elsewhere. Our designs are calibrated to your facial features, skin tone, age, and personality. The 3D try-on is exactly for this — you see the proposed result before committing, and we refine until it looks like you, not a stock template. Most patients describe the result as 'looking like myself, but the version I have always wanted to see in photos.'
Modern veneers — particularly thin glass-ceramic veneers — require minimal preparation of the underlying tooth, sometimes none at all. We always discuss the options first. Where a 'no-prep' or 'minimal-prep' approach can deliver the result you want, we will recommend that. Where more substantial preparation is the right choice for a long-lasting result, we will explain why and let you decide.
Glass-ceramic veneers typically last 10–15 years with good care, and many last considerably longer. The biggest predictors of long life are good gum health, avoiding heavy grinding (we recommend a night guard if you grind), and not using your teeth as tools. We see patients with original veneers from 15-plus years ago still in great shape.
Whitening changes the colour of your existing teeth but not the shape. Bonding adds tooth-coloured resin to your existing teeth — useful for chips, small gaps, and minor shape changes. Veneers are thin shells of ceramic permanently bonded to the front of your teeth — they change both colour and shape, and are the most dramatic and longest-lasting change. Most smile makeovers combine two or more of these.
Yes — and this is the single most important part of FaceLab's smile design. After your initial consultation and digital scan, we design your new smile digitally, then 3D-print it as a physical try-on you can wear. You look in the mirror, take photos, show your partner or family, and decide whether you want it before any treatment begins. Unlimited design revisions until you are happy.
